About the role

We’re looking for a senior backend engineer to join the Channels and Platform team at Buffer. You will play a key role in building our public API and creating a future plug-in ecosystem that would elevate Buffer into a platform other developers can build on top of providing creators the next generation of tools for writing editing managing content. We’re looking for someone with first-hand experience designing implementing maintaining public APIs extensibility platforms who enjoys going deep — designing data models shaping APIs improving performance helping systems scale with clarity confidence. You’ll work closely with product design mobile web engineers bring ideas life keep user experience smooth resilient. We work iteratively tight feedback loops balancing thoughtful engineering steady momentum. In addition building new platform you’ll help strengthen internal systems making faster scalable better equipped power content creation scale. There’s real room here shape direction make impact.

What you’ll do

  • Be part small dedicated squad within Channels Platform team responsible Public API development.
  • Lead development backend systems Buffer Platform includes creating API core Buffer features internal services ensure Public API stability availability high performance developer tools platform clients.
  • Improve evolve internal systems — helping consolidate services monorepo improve tooling observability reduce complexity across board.
  • Collaborate closely engineers product design scope work explore trade-offs find simplest path something great.
  • Make steady improvements performance reliability data modeling helping scale quality over time.
  • Participate on-call rotation (all engineers take 24/7 week-long shift once quarter average) day-day maintenance work required keep lights systems owned team (includes bug fixing addressing security vulnerabilities incident follow-ups etc.)
  • Code review assignment 30-minute asynchronous assignment reviewing pull request helps understand how think about code communicate technical ideas.
